About Us
Hello! We are a medley of Bengali, Punjabi and Yorkshire family of four and we would love to share our world of family travel, life experiences and adventures as we travel near and far across the globe!
A little bit of background about us – We love travelling, in particular we love national parks, natural heritage sites, water bodies and seeing wildlife. Ashique and I never really had a honeymoon after we got married in 2004, our honeymoon was the year before, where we travelling across India, Malaysia, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and made our way to England where we have been based the past 10 years. With the kids we have travelled to more than 21Β countries. They each had been to three continents before the age of 1. I am now on 33 countries, some many time over and don’t plan to stop π
What else would you like to know about us? I would have preferred to have a video or quotes from friends and family to see what they have to say about us! That would have been more fun, but no time to compile that so here are a few bits on each of us –
Me (Samiya) – I can’t really relax for too long – I love to run, do yoga, dance, make many plans all at the same time, juggle between the two hats I wear – being a marine conservation scientist and working on our travel blog. Sometimes the two combines, when I can travel for my PhD. Other times not! I eventually want to build in my conservation work into the blog, but that’s another project for the future!
Ashique is the chef in our family – he loves to cook and entertain, the only physical activity he likes to do is play squash! He is also big on long countryside walks (which always finish with a pint or two at a pub). He tries to go fishing when he can, used to be big on birdwatching, hasn’t done much of that recently. A Psychiatrist by day, a Chef by night, he takes care of all the boring details of travel like visas, paperwork, insurance etc! We balance each other and take turns being sensible and crazy when it comes to planning travel π
Our golden boy Shahaar– not being biased but he was(is) the best travelling baby ever! Went on his first birdwatching trip at 7 days, first international trip at 8 weeks and has been trotting around the globe, 3 continents before his first birthday and made travelling with kids such a fun experience for us! He loves to read, play soccer with friends, video games with his dad, loves to tease his younger sister, has gone through so many phases over the years – Star Wars, Lego, Super heroes, Mario, Knights…he makes friends easily and is very sweet natured and responsible.
Shama – monkey girl, chatterbox, ball of energy and full of life! She maybe the youngest but definitely not the quietest amongst the four of us – loves climbing trees, climbing anything, loves to read and do arts and crafts, loves to TALK, loves Sushi, wants to do everything her brother does, can’t wait to grow up! Will chat with anyone on our travels, people on trains, shops, campsites, hospitals, she will have a friend everywhere π Has been an inspiration to all of us past two years and here’s why.
Both Ashique and I are big on wildlife, conservation, and trying to live sustainably…not always possible to do when we love travel so much, but we try our best. Eat local, fly less, do car/train travel whenever possible and tread lightly on all the beautiful natural places we visit. We have travelled together past 10 years and have travelled with kids since they were 8 weeks old.
We hope to continue our travels with kids, explore new destinations, embrace new experiences and we hope you enjoy joining us on this journey as we explore the world!
