Perfect family vacation at White Sands Estate and Brewery

We did an amazing 5 day road trip around Tasmania, travelling along the Great Eastern Drive to Hobart and then onwards to the west coast.  We started at the lovely north-east at the Bay of Fires and Binalong Bay and made our way to Freycinet National Park.  In between we spent a memorable evening and night at White Sands Estate located along the Tasman Highway. You look for it in google maps and the description says it all – Remote resort with a brewery and a beach 🙂

If you have been following our blog, you will see that we are flexible with travel accommodation and are happy to stay in budget motels and hostels, cosy AirBnB cottages and farms, throw in our wonderful campervan experiences, as well as more luxurious accommodations such as Losehill House Hotel and Spa.  This 2 month travels in Australia, we have even thrown couchsurfing in the mix and had a lovely homestay with hosts in Hobart. But our experience at White Sands Estate was really unique and for you travellers looking for luxury and tranquility in the most stunning of locations,  this place is the perfect base for a dream vacation!

Great location

White Sands Estate is well located on the Great Eastern Drive and you can see their suggested itineraries for 2-7 days here for nature based or food and wine based travels. We found it great as base to head up north to Binalong Bay and Bay of Fires, both were magical place.  We also enjoyed Scamander and St Helens, great for surfing and fishing activities. It is a close to Douglas Aspley National Park and further south, within an hours drive you get to the popular seaside town of Bicheno and then to Freycinet National Park, which we absolutely loved!

Within the estate grounds – range of facilities

There was a range of activities here for the family.  These included full sized tennis courts and basketball court. There was a mini pond for boating, indoors cinema, play area for the little ones and mini golf. Our personal favourite was the heated pool. There was also a range of board games and DVDs that you have borrow for viewing back at your villa. The grounds were spacious and we saw a few families with small children who had brought their scooters and cycles.  The heated outdoors pool was really big and overlooked the Tasman sea, we had a fun family swim here in the evening after the kids and Ashique played tennis.

White Sands has their own brewery and we sampled their wine and beer with our meals at the restaurants. They have daily wine or beer tasting sessions but we couldn’t fit it into our packed schedule. The tasting rooms are open until 530pm. You can also dine at BrewHaus Bar and Cafe and we had a delicious meal here. All items are from fresh Tasmanian produce and prepared really well. The staff are super friendly too.

There are 29 villas around the estates, several of them with seaviews.  Others were conveniently opposite the swimming pool, basketball court or near the dining area. To be honest, from the outside they did not look very glamorous, but they are very spacious and all have large verandahs – ours had french glass doors through which you could see the beautiful Tasman Sea.

Our villa had a fully furbished kitchen including fresh ground coffee and cafetière which made Ashique very happy.

The only downfall is that there is no wifi anywhere on the estate grounds or villas except for the dining hall. And even there, you can only access it for half hour before having to request for another code to access another half hour. The staff at reception and at the dining area were very accommodation and happy to chat to the children about their travels. The whole estate had a very family friendly atmosphere, but at the same time it was enjoyable for couples and adults only retreat thanks to fine wining and dining.

We enjoyed the sunset from our deck and then after the lovely diner and walk back to our villa, we put the kids to bed and sat outside at night listening to the waves crashing onto the shore. The stars were out and the temperature was surprisingly not cold given how cold it had been in Tasmania in general.

All in all, a very memorable 24 hours at the lovely White Sands Estate, wish we could have stayed longer!

What a great visit and villa! We’ve really come to appreciate spaciousness and pools as we do our own family travel. And breweries…

This looks like a wonderfully relaxing place! The photos are beautiful. The limited wifi could be a little frustrating, but I totally see that getting away from “being plugged in” and experiencing the beauty around you would be awesome. I would love to photograph all the seaside and various terrains. The water looks beautiful. Thanks for sharing!
